Kevin Honyouti Paakwa Mana – Frog Maiden Sculpture

Kevin Honyouti told me the shape of this piece of wood pointed to his creating this Frog Maiden or Paakwa Mana. It is carved in bas relief as the Frog’s mouth and feathers extend above the flat surface. The carving is 9″ tall and 3″ wide. The top has a small bright red feather attached. It is signed on the base with Kevin’s initials which he said he modified to look like a petroglyph. Kevin’s work is featured in my book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers, 1880 – Present.”
