This is one of the larger traditional style katsinam I’ve had. It’s a Wakaskatsina or Cow by well-regarded carver, Larry Melendez. He has been a talented katsina artist for over 30 years. He is the brother of Manuel Denet Chavarria. This Cow is 17″ tall and with the feathers, 26″ tall! Ear to ear it is 10 1/2″ wide. Finely carved and painted. This katsina will be a focal point in a collection. As shown in the last picture, he has signed it with his initials and Butterfly Clan symbol on the bottom of the feet.
