Kevin Quanimptewa Minis – Grandmother, Frog, Maiden

I refer to Kevin Quanimptewa as the “Miniature Meister.” He is featured in our book, “Hopi Katsina Anomalies” (2024). This set of three includes a Hahay’iwuuti or Grandmother, a Paakwa or Frog, and a Mana or Maiden. They are each about 2″ tall not including the feathers. Kevin is a fire fighter for the Hopi Department of the Interior and beyond. He spends a great deal of his time from Spring through Fall fighting forest fires. He refers to this work as “dangerous, hard but good work.” When he has free time he creates these miniatures and at time full figured carvings. Each of the katsinam is signed in miniature cursive “KQ.”
