This painting of a Tawakatsina or Sun is an original by Cliff Bahnimptewa. Cliff (1937-1984) was an important Hopi artist. In 1968, he began a three year effort to paint all 286 of the Katsinam in Harold Colton’s book, “Hopi Kachina Dolls.” Of these, 237 were published in Barton Wright’s book, “Kachinas, a Hopi Artist’s Documentary.” The Tawa painting is 19″ by 14″ and the framed dimensions are 26″ by 21.” The painting is signed and dated (1982) by Cliff.
