Sheryl Susunkewa – Katsina Painting with Embedded Braille Text

I purchased this painting from old friend, Sheryl Susunkewa, at the 2026 Heard Show. She is one of Manfred Susunkewa’s daughters. This painting has an inspirational meaning. Sheryl told me she is sight-impaired and that she decided to make a painting using braille lettering. This painting is of a katsina face and it has raised braille lettering subtly presented throughout its entire surface. Sheryl told me the lettering says, “Kachina Spirit.” The piece is painted with acrylic and mixed media materials. Its dimensions are 8″ by 8″ and it is attached to a wood frame 1 1/2″ deep. It is signed and dated on the back of the canvas.
