After decades of collecting and dealing in katsina carvings, it’s exciting to encounter something truly different. Here’s a Hen katsina – a fairly rare figure to begin with – set in a scene. Note all the detail on the base: four Hopi cloud designs, two watermelons, and a box with multi-colored piki dough. The Hen is 8″ tall. She is wearing a real turquoise necklace and cloth garment. Red fringe on her ears and dance wand. A wooden bell in her right hand. She has lace on the bottom of her dress. The base is 6″ by 5 1/2″.
