Alph Secakuku describes the Ma’lo katsina as “belonging to the early period of katsina development… He performs a dance that portrays a prayer for rain and good crop yield.” This example from the 1940s is made with considerable attention to detail. Note the depiction of the turquoise necklace, rattle, kilt, belt and sash. The colors are vibrant on this katsina which is 12″ tall and 4 1/2″ wide.
