This is a 1920s Hopi Sikya or Yellow Ahote katsina. It has black and red stars on the face. According to both Harold Colton and Barton Wright, the Ahote katsina is derived from the Plains Indians. It is done in a minimalist style consistent with the era with the hands in the classic ponotutuyqa or “belly ache” position . The mineral pigments are vibrant; it has tiny point feet. The katsina is attached to a professional base that displays it stably. It is 9″ with the feathers adding 2.5 “. Came to me from a Santa Fe collection.
