The American schooner Westward made her European racing debut in the Baltic at the Kiel Regatta of 1910. The beautiful new boat won the series decisively,receiving the Emporor's Cup as her prize, and defeating several of Germany's finest yachts, which included Hamburg, Nordstern, Germania, and Kaiser Wilhelm II's Meteor IV. As these great yachts engage each other in sporting competition, a Deutschland class battleship can be seen at anchor in the distance, a symbol of the clouds of World War I that were gathering on the horizon.
