This painting depicts the definitive moment during the first race for the seventh defense of the America’s Cup on September 27th, 1887. The American defender Volunteer, was behind at the start, but has come from behind and has just crossed the bow of the challenger, Thistle, from Scotland’s Royal Clyde Yacht Club.
