Description Antelope Dancer earrings by Sioux / Lakota Silversmith Michael Little Elk Michael Little Elk was raised in South Dakota on the Rosebud Reservation where he was fortunate enough to learn the traditions of his Native Lakota-Sioux culture. He was taught the family trade of pipe carving at a very early age and continued developing this skill until he moved to Colorado. It was there that he began to explore different carving techniques using a large selection of woods and metals. His creative passion for carving expanded and he began to apply these techniques to silver and gold jewelry designs. His jewelry and sculptures have been included in the collections of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and numerous galleries around the United States. Under the guidance of Native artists such as Charles Loloma, Kenneth Begay and Preston Monogye, he became more knowledgeable about the different ways of fabricating jewelry that helped him to develop his unique and contemporary designs of today.
